Joy of Beauty®, 2023 SBA Maryland Woman Owned business of the Year is one of the first Equity Select Clients with EXIM Bank
EXIM is hosting its annual conference showcasing the important roles of US businesses in the world of exports. The conference is set to take place at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington DC on June 6 & 7, 2024 and Joy A. Johnson Founder and CEO Joy of Beauty, a Charles County, Maryland based business and 2023 SBA Maryland Woman Owned Business of the Year recipient is one of EXIM’s first Equity Express Select clients, and is participating in a panel for their EQS breakout session at the conference.
EXIM assists American businesses export their goods by providing financial assistance in the form of loans, loan guarantees and insurance. EXIM Bank provides support to minority and women-owned businesses (MWOBs) through their dedicated group of specialists that work exclusively with MWOBs. This team provides hands-on guidance on how to qualify and offers advice on trade finance that levels the playing field with foreign competition. The MWOB division is who helped Joy A. Johnson, realized her options with exporting and assisted with navigating the process to being approved as one of the first businesses in the Equity Express Select program which was launched on April 19, 2024.
Nails & Faces of Joy, started in 2007 but formally registered as an LLC in 2012, thrived at several brick-and-mortar beauty treatment locations in Charles County, Maryland from 2009 – 2018, through which she offered special care to the diabetic and free monthly beauty services to those diagnosed with cancer. Johnson’s dedicated clientele also included men and women who did not identify in either of those groups. Initially it was a fully service-based beauty spa business. With a necessary pivot Johnson reinvented her business from being primarily service based in to a Maryland-certified MBE/WBE/SBE and ACDBE firm that manufactures her vegan, cruelty-free, toxin-free, no artificial dyes, non-artificial fragranced diabetic-friendly body care brand, in Maryland.
With Joy of Beauty’s efforts to expand into the global market and with the expertise of EXIM-MWOB division, US Commercial Services, Maryland Dept. of Commerce, and Small Business Development Center, Johnson used the resources available via these government agencies as a great opportunity to broaden her business. If you are thinking about expanding outside the US market, you should, because according to the Small Business Administration (SBA), Nearly 96% of consumers live outside the US.
Join us as we breakdown the strategic steps you need as you decide to venture out into the world of exporting abroad. The two-day, in-person event will feature leaders in business, finance, government, policy, and media and will showcase the critical role EXIM plays in bolstering trade and supporting U.S. jobs.
